Instead, the Memorial Cup champions usually went to represent Canada. The exception was 1978 in Montreal, when an all-star team was put together. Records before the 1977 tournament are incomplete and, thus, not included in this compilation. More detailed histories have been created starting with the 1982 tournament, when Canadas first true National Junior team was created. The tournament format between 1978 and 1981 split the teams into two separate groups after the preliminary round. Teams from the top group of the Championship round are ranked 1-4 regardless of point toal. 1977 - Zvolen, Czechoslovakia Final Standings COUNTRY GP W L T GF GA PTS Soviet Union 7 7 0 0 51 19 14 Canada 7 5 1 1 50 20 11 Czechoslovakia 7 4 2 1 32 17 9 Finland 7 4 3 0 35 29 8 Sweden 7 3 4 0 28 30 6 West Germany 7 2 5 0 18 33 4 United States 7 1 5 1 25 45 3 Poland 7 0 6 1 12 58 1 Top Scorers PLAYER GP G A PTS Dale McCourt (CAN) 7 10 8 18 John Anderson (CAN) 7 11 5 16 Igor Romashin (USSR) 7 6 6 12 Juha Jurkkio (FIN) 7 7 4 11 Alexei Frolikov (USSR) 7 6 5 11 Tournament All-Stars G - Alexander Tyzhnych (USSR) F - Dale McCourt (CAN) D - Lubomir Oslizlo (CZE) F - Igor Romashin (USSR) D - Risto Siltanen (FIN) F - Bengt-Ake Gustafsson (SWE) 1978 - Montreal Final Standings COUNTRY GP W L T GF GA PTS Soviet Union 7 6 1 0 51 16 12 Sweden 7 4 2 1 28 24 9 Canada 6 4 2 0 36 18 8 Czechoslovakia 6 2 4 0 21 32 4 United States 6 4 2 0 41 30 8 Finland 6 3 2 1 45 25 7 West Germany 6 1 5 0 20 33 2 Switzerland 6 0 6 0 7 70 0 Top Scorers PLAYER GP G A PTS Wayne Gretzky (CAN) 6 8 9 17 Victor Skudryuk (USSR) 7 10 6 16 Sergei Makarov (USSR) 7 8 7 15 Bobby Crawford (USA) 6 4 9 13 Mark Green (USA) 6 7 5 12 Tournament All-Stars G - Alexander Tyzhnych (USSR) F - Wayne Gretzky (CAN) D - Vyacheslav Fetisov (USSR) F - Mats Naslund (SWE) D - Risto Siltanen (FIN) F - Anton Stastny (CZE) 1979 - Karlstad, Sweden Final Standings COUNTRY GP W L T GF GA PTS Soviet Union 6 5 0 1 46 11 11 Sweden 6 4 1 1 19 13 9 Czechoslovakia 6 3 1 2 19 23 8 Finland 6 2 4 0 20 19 4 Canada 5 3 2 0 23 10 6 United States 5 2 3 0 21 23 4 West Germany 5 1 4 0 17 26 2 Norway 5 0 5 0 6 46 0 Top Scorers PLAYER GP G A PTS Vladimir Krutov (USSR) 6 8 6 14 Anatoli Tarasov (USSR) 6 5 5 10 Vyacheslav Ryanov (USSR) 6 6 3 9 Georg Holzmann (GER) 5 4 4 8 Aleksander Gerasimov (USSR) 6 2 6 8 Tournament All-Stars G - Pelle Lindbergh (SWE) F - Anatoli Tarasov (USSR) D - Ivan Cerny (CZE) F - Vladimir Krutov (USSR) D - Alexei Kasatonov (USSR) F - Thomas Steen (SWE) 1980 - Helsinki, Finland Final Standings COUNTRY GP W L T GF GA PTS Soviet Union 5 5 0 0 24 9 10 Finland 5 4 1 0 29 8 8 Sweden 5 2 2 1 23 15 5 Czechoslovakia 5 2 3 0 28 27 4 Canada 5 3 2 0 25 18 6 West Germany 5 2 3 0 15 28 4 United States 5 1 3 1 21 26 3 Switzerland 5 0 5 0 13 47 0 Top Scorers PLAYER GP G A PTS Vladimir Krutov (USSR) 5 7 4 11 Jari Kurri (FIN) 5 4 7 11 Hakan Loob (SWE) 5 2 9 11 Jan Vodila (CZE) 5 6 2 8 Kari Jalonen (FIN) 5 3 5 8 Tournament All-Stars G - Jari Paavola (FIN) F - Vladimir Krutov (USSR) D - Tomas Jonsson (SWE) F - Igor Larionov (USSR) D - Reijo Ruotsalainen (FIN) F - Hakan Loob (SWE) 1981 - Fussen, West Germany Final Standings COUNTRY GP W L T GF GA PTS Sweden 5 4 0 1 25 11 9 Finland 5 3 1 1 29 18 7 Soviet Union 5 3 2 0 26 14 6 Czechoslovakia 5 1 1 3 34 21 5 West Germany 5 3 2 0 29 24 6 United States 5 2 3 0 19 26 4 Canada 5 1 3 1 26 25 3 Austria 5 0 5 0 9 67 0 Top Scorers PLAYER GP G A PTS Dieter Hegen (GER) 5 8 1 9 Dale Hawerchuk (CAN) 5 5 4 9 Bobby Carpenter (USA) 5 5 4 9 Ari Latheemaki (FIN) 5 5 4 9 Vladimir Svitek (CZE) 5 5 4 9 Tournament All-Stars G - Lars Eriksson (SWE) F - Jan Erixon (SWE) D - Miroslav Horava (CZE) F - Ari Lahteenmaki (FIN) D - Hakan Nordin (SWE) F - Patrik Sundstrom (SWE) Adidas Ultra Boost Rebajas .
